Nothing Else Matters - on Cimbalom
My mother called me tonight and told me about a youtube video of Radu Seu, playing Nothing Else Matters ... on a cimbalom.
The movie was shot with a phone camera, in a Restaurant. It started circulating a short while ago and it's apparently been passed around the internet virally.
It's good to see that people recognize it for what it is.
I mean, it's shot badly, and people still forward it.
It's in a restaurant, with people's voices in the background, and people still forward it.
The sound quality is bad and people still forward it.
It gives me a good feeling to see this.
Edit: Here's some more:
Bach's Ave Maria
He Who Loves and Lets Go (traditional Romanian Folk):

Playing for Change
I found this via reddit - via inspirationlounge - via movingpicturesmagazine. The site is playingforchange.
Mark Johnson describes how he was inspired to create it, while listening on a singing street performance by two monks, ten years ago.
In the videos, various people from around the world listen to the music (negative?) and contribute to it in various ways.

Stand by Me
Original lyrics:
When the night has come
And the land is dark
And the moon is the only light we'll see
No I won't be afraid, no I won't be afraid
Just as long as you stand, stand by me
And darlin', darlin', stand by me, oh now now stand by me
Stand by me, stand by me
If the sky that we look upon
Should tumble and fall
And the mountains should crumble to the sea
I won't cry, I won't cry, no I won't shed a tear
Just as long as you stand, stand by me
And darlin', darlin', stand by me, oh stand by me
Stand by me, stand by me, stand by me-e, yeah
Whenever you're in trouble won't you stand by me, oh now now stand by me
Oh stand by me, stand by me, stand by me
Darlin', darlin', stand by me-e, stand by me
Oh stand by me, stand by me, stand by me
No More Trouble
Original lyrics:
Until the philosophy which holds one race
Superior and another inferior
Is finally and permanently discredited and abandoned
Everywhere is war, me say war
That until there is no longer first class
And second class citizens of any nation
Until the colour of a man's skin
Is of no more significance than the colour of his eyes
Me say war
That until the basic human rights are equally
Guaranteed to all, without regard to race
Dis a war
That until that day
The dream of lasting peace, world citizenship
Rule of international morality
Will remain in but a fleeting illusion
To be pursued, but never attained
Now everywhere is war, war
And until the ignoble and unhappy regimes
That hold our brothers in Angola, in Mozambique,
South Africa sub-human bondage
Have been toppled, utterly destroyed
Well, everywhere is war, me say war
War in the east, war in the west
War up north, war down south
War, war, rumours of war
And until that day, the African continent
Will not know peace, we Africans will fight
We find it necessary and we know we shall win
As we are confident in the victory
Of good over evil, good over evil, good over evil
Good over evil, good over evil, good over evil

Paper (official CCTV music video)
I got the story from /.: The Get Out Clause, a music band in England started locating CCTV cameras around the city, then set up their gig there and started playing.
They, they contacted the CCTV owners and asked for the footage, under the Freedom of Information Act.
Here's the result (and a pretty good one at that):
Edit: or ... well ... apparently not ... well ... not completely.

good management lesson
A manager went to the master programmer and showed him the requirements document for a new application. The manager asked the master: "How long will it take to design this system if I assign five programmers to it?"
"It will take one year," said the master promptly.
"But we need this system immediately or even sooner! How long will it take if I assign ten programmers to it?"
The master programmer frowned. "In that case, it will take two years."
"And what if I assign a hundred programmers to it?"
The master programmer shrugged. "Then the design will never be completed," he said.

I've written about Mission: No Pants before. Now, I found the ImprovEverywhere user on youtube. This prank is amongst their most spectacular movies:

I was telling D about this guy and his computer animations and I figured that if I took the time to search the net for them, I might as well post a link for them, online:

not quite American Idol (Simon Cowell)
Normally I don't have much consideration for these shows (I guess this is the British version of "American Idol") and I don't watch the favorites or anything, but this video made it on top ten on viralvideochart.com and I wanted to see why.
I guess I can safely say I was ... completely blown away!

For this video, I created the label "art". I will go through the archives and add some previous posts to that label.

taiko
According to wikipedia, the word taiko (太鼓) means simply drum (there's a more detailed description of them here).
Be that as it may, what some people do with them is more spectacular than simple.
I was listening to hip-hop on my machine, then I watched this movie. I wanted to switch back to listening hip-hop once it finished, but all of a sudden it didn't seem like music any longer.
Makes me wonder what real art is (and why I'm not listening to it more often :( ).
